London to Paris day 15 & 16
Friday, November 04, 2011, 1:00 PM
Woke up at 4.30am to catch our booked cab at 5.15am to Canada water tube carpark. Had a little problem with the luggages but reached the start location early and waited for an hour forty minutes till we board the bus. Left at almost 8am and took a long ride to the chalk cliffs to cross the channel to France. The ship delayed and we took the 12.30pm instead of the 10am one so on the ship we went and I got a little sea sick. Then was another long ride to the center of Paris where we saw the bad traffic and jams. Didn't rest and went for the walking tour of sacre cure, mon marte and outside moulin rouge. At the foot of sacre cure we decided to take the finnocular up instead of walking as the past two weeks we have been walking non stop.. Plus it wasn't expensive... Mon marte serves great crepes and the caricaturists there are all fantastic! Their portraits are all so pretty.. Too bad I had no time to sit down and let them draw me.. I can't stop thinking how mine will turn out... Oh.. Let the fantasy continue! Crepes were €2.50 to €3.50 each... We bought ham n cheese and nutella with one shop and mushroom n cheese and ham n cheese at the more popular crepe store.. Both were nice but mushroom n cheese definitely not the best combination.. Continued our walk to outside moulin rouge which stands for red windmill where there are cancan dancers. But to go in we need to prebook and it costs €120 per person for dinner inside... Indulgence! But of course we didn't go in... So after some photos we took the long tube ride back to Foresthill hotel. One thing bad about budget tours, they save on accommodation so we get far away places... But the hotel was quite nice and all was forgiven... But only for two nights in Paris... The worst is yet to come...

So we had a morning walking tour the next day.. Woke up at 7am for dress up and breakfast. The walking tour started out at the Place De L' Opera where phantom of the opera's setting was based on. According to the guide, there's really a lake underneath the theatre and the story was inspired when a person was killed under the big chandelier and all the ghost story begins where he haunts the place. It is now Paris's ballet school and only invited guests can go under to have a look... Or unless you are a student there then maybe you get the chance.. We only had time for photos so we didn't really step near it, just took photos from opposite. Next was the Place Vendom where Ritz hotel is and the last place Princess Diana left from before her car accident. Ritz is also where Coco Chanel lives. There is a monument there made of meltdown cannon with Napolean on top for commemorating his triumph. Then we walked to Jardin des tuileries where it was the walk from old castle where louve museum stood all the way past obelisque to Arc De Triomphe Etoile. We were given some time at the Tuleries where we slacked and took a little photos.. From there we could see Arc De Triomphe so we took photos and didn't walk near. We walked towards Louve museum and continued our journey thru Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in Paris but new bridge in translation. The interesting thing about this bridge was the faces along the bridge as it was built when one of the kings had a celebration and saw many drunk people at his party and thought it was real funny, so he decided to ask the palace artist to draw them down and subsequently these faces of drunken men were plastered on the bridge... Interesting story but don't know how true... Last stop was the Notre Dame which was really beautiful inside and outside. I saw people feeding birds with crumbs on their hands...and it was beautiful... We got souvenir coins at €2 each then proceeded to find a toilet which was in vain in whole of Europe... It was already 12.30pm after the walking tour and so we settled down in a restaurant just because of its toilet and went for escargots that wasn't nicer then the ones I tried in Singapore but had a flavor of its own with a kind of herb or rosemary or something. The rest of the food is not bad but the curry satay i tried is best left alone... Who can make curry betlter than Indians... But the duck, fish and steak was good... Especially the dessert! Mine was chocolate moose while Min's crepe ice cream! Both were really good! Oh I love dessert! After lunch was Pompidu the cultural centre as dad insisted we go have a look... Well, we really only did have a look due to time constraints. Then we walked back to Louve museum where we made use of the last 1hr of opening time for the Mona Lisa, the Milo sculpture and Michaelangelo for €10 each. Rest of the time we walked freely and then went out to meet mum and dad then was the all famous Eiffel Tower. We queued for almost an hour then went up to the topmost floor for €11.80 for min and I, €13.40 for the rest where we had lots a photos taken. One thing worth mentioning was that I used the toilet at Eiffel and it felt different from the rest that I have used.. Maybe cause of the heights... Small but clean and made me feel crazy still needing a toilet at Eiffel... Sorry Gustov Eiffel! Oh and Gustov Eiffel was also the one who designed the statue of liberty which was sent as gift to USA. View was spectacular and someone even celebrated his birthday on the tower. How nice it would be if i had that kind of surprises and experiences. It felt heartwarming and would definitely be unforgettable... I love it when the tower shines at night with rhythmic sparkling... Really was romantic... Another thing was that I saw a carousel opposite and found it really dreamy like to find so many carousels in Europe which u will read in my other posts later... It was already late when we got down.. Almost 10pm so we headed back... Not without Ko not buying dinner so we had a bit of bread and headed back to the hotel... By the time we got back it was 11pm so we washed up and rested... Internet was not available so I decided to not write diary.. Plus all the walking really did take a toil on our energy and sapped out enthusiasm... Waking up early the next day to a long day's bus ride to Avigon... The longest bus ride in my life... 12 hours with little rest... Oh well, shall bitch on my next post...
