Nice day 18 to 19
Sunday, November 13, 2011, 8:29 PM
This day we departed Avignon, to Pont du gard... Where we had free time to walk around a very serene bridge where it was used as water transportation. Had a group photo there then we walked and bought a commemorative coin before we board the bus. Then is the long bus ride to Nice. Then we stopped over at Fragonard the french perfumery, where they manufacture perfume and soaps and creams etc... We only bought the argon oil €48 which was said to be very good for the face and skin. I was tempted to get the perfume as they come in aluminum bottles and can be kept for 6 years period compared to glass bottles which can only stay up to one year the most... But none of the fragrances got me addicted.. So we almost left empty handed... I also learnt the difference between perfume and eaux de toilette is in it's concentration. Perfume is 24% concentration with the remainder as alcohol while eaux de toilette is 10% concentration with remainder as alcohol. We proceeded to Nice, cote d' azure where we checked in to etap hotel. Only got to slack abit before meeting the guide at the lobby at 5.30pm to proceed to Monte Carlo. We were best dressed that evening as the Monte Carlo casino needed proper dressing. Bought return tickets at €35 and then took the 7.28pm train... The guide didn't really hep us to get tickets but we found our way alright... Train ride there took like half an hour. Then when we dropped, the guide mentioned the last train in at 11.58pm before we split into 2 groups. One group went to dinner and drinks with the guide and we walked towards the casino at first but turned the other way of the horseshoe towards the castle. Along the way we met the rest having pizza outside a supermarket and so we followed suit giving up on finding Chinese or Indian crusine. The seller was really well trained and pizzas were served within 10 mins. I flirted a bit with him since he seems to prefer young ladies to the rest of the older companions we had that night... Forgot how much it costs... But we also got 2 packets of milk from the supermarket... The pizza guy said he only stopped over in Singapore airport and I asked him to come visit. He said he would if I offered to be guide so I just said yes but we didn't exchange numbers or anything... Just making small talk I guess... I bet he has never stepped into our airport like he said... After dinner, we proceeded to the castle but since it was not open, we only glanced at it from the bottom of the hill... Saw the rest of the gang drinking at one of the pubs by the hatch parking area... Casino pub or sth... But we just said hi and left taking our photos and walking to the casino... The long walk was coupled with tasting of the water, more photos and small chat between members which I find really relaxing and refreshing... Everyone was nice to everyone... We walked the race route to take a lift up to the casino and then at the grand casino, we didn't go in as the enterance was €10 and we aren't gamblers but the architecture inside and outside was breath-taking. With all the big cars parked outside it makes one feel rich just being around the rich... But the dress sense was less formal than I expected... I expected growns and tuxedos... But all I saw were suits and short evening dresses being the most formal... We then tried our luck at the casino opposite without enterance fee and Ko tried on the tiger machine. We won €20 but our greediness took the betternof us and we only stopped our win at €4 where me and Ko spilt half... The €2 I still keep with me as lucky coin... Lolx... We then rushed to get the last train only to find the last train left at 10.30pm since it was off peak season... Wtf... Our guide was irresponsible.. When we called him he rejected our calls at first then when he was more sober he brought the restbofnthe group to meet us only to tell us he had no solution to the problem... Wth... We stopped the police and they said the only way back was cab or take next morning's train... We were too tired to be spending the night outside so we arranged 3 cabs at €85 each cab... Extra expenditure we didn't have to incur if not for our stupid guide Nick! More like dick! Anyway the rest we drunk so we just took care of ourselves... Sorry to leave the Mexican guy behind cause the Indian couple just cut queue... So thick skinned... Once back we went back to our rooms to sleep... It was around 1am by that time...
Next day we went on to Cannes... Thought we would follow some of them but we broke up and took photos... Went to the beach, walked the expensive branded streets, had pizza and pasta for lunch and then went to Lafaye galleries before taking SNCF back to Nice... Did not buy anything... So when we were back in Nice, we bought chips and some beer and fruits back to the hotel to eat... Were too lazy to go to old town or walk the beach right outside our hotel... But the extra rest was really needed... We drank the white wine which popped en even before I could catch the cork.... Spilled all over my bed so we brought it to dad's room and had the chips and fruit and bak kua we had with us.... Florence was next... |
