Paris to Avigon day 17
Friday, November 04, 2011, 2:09 PM
Woke up damn early.. Around 6.30am to load bags and had breakfast... We were on of then last ones to get on the bus... So much for Singaporeans being kiasu... Then went on for a 12hr bus ride sitting right at the back of the bus for the three of us while mum and dad had to split seats in front. Along the way we stopped at a Chateau de Chasselas where they grew burgundy wines. It used to be only burgundy but as competition from Australia and South Africa grew, the rules were lightened to allow other wine to be produced from the different regions. Toured the Chateau which also had place for rental for short stay and even events like weddings... Nice place... Had wine tasting, where we were taught to see colour, twirl wine for flavour then smell the wine then gargle mixing the air with the wine to taste it's flavor which can be like grapefruit or cork for the red while it could be anything white for the white... Bought a white wine and a red for like €14-15... Cheap! The owner was nice but his assistant hated asians and showed his displease when we asked for the carriers. He had to make sure we did buy and totally ignored us when we spoke to him... Wth... I am Singaporean, not some PRC! But even if I am, you have no right to look down on us! Only people with no confidence think they are superior to other... And yes, I am of Chinese origin and I am not ashamed to say it! You can coop urself up in that country of yours and keep ur reputation of being obnoxious, unfriendly and proud!
Went back on the bus to continue our journey and the rest of the group were drinking and making merry on the bus.. All of them were drunk by the time we reach the hotel ibis in Avigon. It was a really small hotel... Then after like half hour, we went out to our first group dinner where dad made a fuss when our family could not sit together... Luckily, the south African mum and daughter let us have their seats and mum went to sit with another Indian family, only did dad not walk off... Dinner was bread, chicken with potato and chocolate roll for dessert. Mike, a group member was celebrating his birthday and treated each table to a jug of 1litres of red wine... Then we went for a short walking tour of the church and the bridge that is no longer in use but was useful during the times the Romans invaded that place... We then took a long walk back to the hotel while our irresponsible guide took off with the younger people to drink and party... Saw hookers sitting in cars along the way in a carpark... Then I slept at around 12 or 1am when my roommate came back... Early day tomorrow to French Riveria... |
